How did you get here?
I got my Master of Planning and then enjoyed several years as a planning consultant as well as a couple of stints playing and coaching cricket overseas. In my own search for a greater purpose to my working week, I realised the potential for business to be a force for change, which led me to kickstart Benefaction.

What are your interests outside of work?
I play a lot of cricket and golf in my spare time (always happy to meet on the golf course), and I enjoy getting outdoors to explore New Zealand’s playground.

What’s one social issue you’re really passionate about solving?
Homelessness. I believe that for communities to thrive, every human needs a roof over their head and some food on the table.

What motivates you to make a difference?
By combining the skills and resources of the commercial and non-profit sectors, I think there’s major potential for positive change at scale, and that’s something that gets me bouncing out of bed each morning.

How did you get here?
After founding and building a business for the past 27 years, I have a strong desire to help young entrepreneurs who want to make a difference to others’ lives. Being a grandfather also constantly reminds me of how important it is to teach our young ones about family and good values.

What are your interests outside of work?
Cricket, cycling, skiing and general outdoor activities—keeping fit and healthy is a priority in my life. And spending good time with family.

What’s one social issue you’re really passionate about solving?
Disadvantaged children. I believe that every child deserves the same opportunities to reach their full potential. I’m also passionate about inspiring youth through sport to create a brighter future for young people.

What motivates you to make a difference?
I believe that business can be a true force for good when they engage in meaningful projects with charities to make a real difference to our society.

How did you get here?
After completing a degree in Accounting and Supply Chain Management, I left New Zealand to play cricket and ski overseas before returning to a role at Ernst & Young in Christchurch. A hunger for innovation and a drive to make a difference has led to my involvement in Benefaction.

What are your interests outside of work?
In the summer, it’s cricket and surfing, and when the winter rolls around the skis come out.

What’s one social issue you’re really passionate about solving?
Providing opportunities to underprivileged children. Every child should have the opportunity to get to the start line so that they can begin building a successful life for themselves.

What motivates you to make a difference?
By combining their resources, businesses and non-profits have the ability to provide massive, life-changing opportunities for society. This is what excites me every day.
